It serves as an Ethereum–Gnosis Chain transfer tool, not a wallet or a separate asset. The gnosis bridge application presents the canonical direction as Ethereum (chain ID 1) to Gnosis Chain (chain ID 100) and shows the way before a wallet signs.
Is Gnosis Bridge the same thing as Gnosis Chain?
No: Gnosis Chain is the separate EVM-compatible blockchain where transactions are made in xDAI, while Gnosis Bridge is the mechanism for moving value or messages between it and Ethereum. The same wallet address can be used on both chains, but each chain maintains its individual balances and token contracts.
Which route should a transfer use?
The xDAI route is for the gas gas asset, whereas OmniBridge handles supported ERC-20 token mappings. They are linked but not substitutes: receiving an ERC-20 representation of DAI through OmniBridge is different from receiving native xDAI for Gnosis Chain gas. After comparing the jobs, I see the choice as token-based rather than a pick between two bridge brands.
What happens to tokens during a bridge transfer?
The origin-side asset is locked, burned, or otherwise accounted for, then the corresponding destination-side asset is minted or released.
